Robin Hood's Oak

We needed a high-interest day because the hours were going to be slow. Anika was scheduled to fly in that night, and we could hardly wait.

We zipped down to Sherwood forest for the morning. What a fine example of a family destination – you pay for parking, then the entire park is free. They have three lengths of walking trails, all annotated with boards that tell about the flora and fauna, and the interdependency of the ecosystem.

The highpoint is the Major Oak, an oak tree that was there 800-1000 years ago (in a younger and more lithe form) when Robin Hood met with his merry folk.

The trails had banners, the gift shops had hats and swords, and the ice cream was cold and sweet. All was as it should be.
